TÜİK announced house sales; fell 21 percent in March

TÜİK announced the statistics of house sales. Accordingly, house sales in Turkey decreased by 21.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and were recorded as 105 thousand 476.

Housing sales across Turkey decreased by 21.4% in March compared to the same month of the previous year, and amounted to 105 thousand 476. Istanbul had the highest share in house sales with 18 thousand 166 houses and 17.2%. According to the number of sales, Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 12 thousand 23 house sales and 11.4% share, Antalya with 6 thousand 120 house sales and 5.8% share. The provinces with the lowest number of house sales were Ardahan with 23 houses, Hakkari with 54 houses and Bayburt with 69 houses, respectively.

Housing sales decreased by 11.5% in the first quarter

Housing sales were recorded as 283 thousand 215 in the first quarter of 2023, with a decrease of 11.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Mortgage housing sales decreased

Mortgaged house sales across Turkey decreased by 16.5 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 25 thousand 262. The share of mortgaged sales in total housing sales was 24.0 percent. Mortgaged house sales in the January-March period, on the other hand, decreased by 13.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and became 58,822.

8,811 of the mortgage sales in March; 18,164 of the mortgaged sales in the January-March period were first hand sales.

72 thousand 577 second-hand houses were sold

Second-hand house sales across Turkey decreased by 24.3 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 72 thousand 577. The share of second-hand housing sales in total housing sales was 68.8 percent. Second-hand house sales, on the other hand, decreased by 11.7 percent in the January-March period compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 199,308.

Housing sales to foreigners decreased

Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 38.7 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 3,415. In March, the share of house sales to foreigners in total house sales was 3.2%. Antalya took the first place in house sales to foreigners with 1,324 house sales. Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 1,090 house sales and Mersin with 240 house sales, respectively.
