Tosyalı wins one of Germany's most important tenders

Tosçelik Spiral Boru, one of the successful companies of Tosyalı, Türkiye's global steel producer and Europe's largest pipe manufacturer, has been awarded the "Rhine Water Pipeline" (RWTL) tender.

Tosyalı wins one of Germany's most important tenders

One of the most important environmental transformation projects in Germany, this project aims to fill unused open pit mines by bringing water from the Rhine River. Tosçelik Spiral will supply a total of 130,000 tons and 105,600 meters of 2235mm large diameter pipe with a total diameter of 130,000 tons and 105,600 meters, respectively, for this project to be carried out by RWE, one of Germany's leading energy companies. Last week, Tosyalı and RWE Power signed a contract at Paffendorf Castle, RWE's congress center near Cologne.

Regarding the agreement, Tosyalı Chairman Fuat Tosyalı said: "As Europe's largest green steel pipe producer, this project has a special meaning for us. As Tosyalı, we prioritize sustainability-oriented investments at every point of our production and allocate great resources to green transformation technologies. Therefore, when a project with high environmental sensitivity such as the Rhine Water Pipeline was announced, we were excited to be a part of this project with our steel pipes with low carbon footprint."

Dr. Lars Kulik, CTO of RWE Power, said: "For our project, we need large, high-quality pipes that will carry water from the Rhine to the mining lakes for decades. Another focus of our tender was the manufacturer's attitude towards the environment. We are very pleased to have Tosyalı as our business partner, with its sustainable vertically integrated production structure from raw materials to the final product and the highest technologies used in production. With their support, we will sustainably transform open pits into attractive lakes for the benefit of future generations."

Tosçelik Spiral Boru, one of the successful companies of Türkiye's global steel producer Tosyalı and one of the largest spiral pipe producers in Europe, continues to grow by taking part in new projects with the agreements it has made, while continuing to contribute to the green transformation initiated in many countries in Europe within the scope of the EU Green Deal.

Tosyalı Will Meet 130,000 Tons of Spiral Pipe Needed by the Project Alone

Moving towards becoming one of the world's leading carbon-free, green steel producers with its sustainability-oriented investments, Tosyalı continues to draw attention as the pipe supplier of new projects in line with this mission. In this context, Tosçelik Spiral Boru, the group's spiral pipe company, recently won the "Rhine Water Pipeline" (RWTL) tender.

Green Transformation Bridge from Türkiye to Germany

Germany's power generation company RWE will stop operating coal-fired power plants and open-cast mines by 2030. With this project, the company will reprocess disused open-cast mines in Garzweiler and Hambach and turn them into lakes. To this end, the company will pump water from the Rhine River near Düsseldorf and Cologne through pressurized pipes laid underground along a 45 km long route. This will not only reintroduce the former open pit mines back into nature, but also supply clean water to protected wetlands and stabilize the regional underground water table.

Tosçelik Spiral Pipes made of Green Steel will be used in the Project

Tosyalı, which RWE has contracted as a supplier in this investment realized within the framework of green transformation, produces steel with the lowest carbon footprint in the sector. Tosyalı, which makes sustainability-oriented investments in its facilities in Türkiye and Algeria, is among the pioneers of the sector in green steel production in the world with its investments in clean energy sources such as solar and hydrogen. With the SPP project, which was realized by investing in all of its facilities in Türkiye at the same time, Tosyalı reached an installed capacity of 235 MW, making it the company with the largest rooftop SPP in the world. With this project, it also became one of the world's most environmentally friendly steel producers by preventing approximately 171 million kg of carbon emissions. Tosyalı also invests in hydrogen, the energy of the future, with new generation technologies. The second DRI production facility realized with MIDREX technology in Algeria will be able to operate with 100% hydrogen. With these sustainability-oriented investments, Tosyalı produces the world's greenest and most environmentally friendly steel and has the lowest carbon footprint in the world.

In this meaningful investment by RWE for green transformation, sustainability-oriented, green steel pipes produced by Tosyalı will be used. Construction of the project, which involves the construction of a three-strand steel pipeline on a route of approximately 45 km, is planned to start at the end of 2024 and be completed by the end of 2029.
