Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association aims to increase exports with 100 new projects

The ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector, which shrank by more than 10 percent in 2023 due to the impact of the Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes, aims to increase its exports with 100 new projects this year, according to the statements of Çetin Tecdelioğlu, President of the Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association (İDDMİB). Tecdelioğlu, who made an assessment of 2023, stated that the sector realized exports worth 12.7 billion dollars, but that this figure decreased in terms of quantity and value.

Stating that China is now their biggest competitor everywhere, Tecdelioğlu said, "However, we have opportunities in countries that want to reduce their trade against China. Since we have lost our competitiveness, we are experiencing serious difficulties in keeping the price in these countries, but we will continue to work by evaluating many opportunities such as our visits, our fast delivery, our ability to make partial goods, without reducing our exports and even putting on it."

Explaining their 2024 targets, Tecdelioğlu stated that they will carry out more than 100 activities and that these activities include procurement delegations, sectoral trade delegations, fairs, seminars, URGE clustering projects, sector meetings, workshops and cooperation visits. He also emphasized the importance of Türkiye in global balances and stated that they plan to increase Türkiye's exports in 2024 through various activities around the world.

Tecdelioğlu predicted that 2024 will be a difficult year worldwide, noting that the Israeli-Palestinian war will grow and spread to neighboring countries will pose a serious threat. Tecdelioğlu also stated that energy costs negatively affected the sectors and demanded support in energy prices with special price tariffs.

The ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector exported the most to Germany with 1.66 billion dollars in 2023. Exports amounted to 764 million dollars to Italy, which ranked second, and 648 million dollars to the USA, which ranked third. The highest increase in exports compared to the previous period was realized as 185 million dollars with an increase of 275 percent to Saudi Arabia and increased 3.7 times. The export unit price in the sector was 4.38 dollars. In the sub-sectors; 4.89 billion dollars in the aluminum sector, 4.03 billion dollars in the armature sector, 2.07 billion dollars in the copper sector, 5.73 billion dollars in the kitchen sector, 2.37 billion dollars in the hardware sector, 30.05 billion dollars in the construction sector and 11.33 billion dollars in the casting sector.
