Electric vehicle sales have increased 9 times in Türkiye

Electric car sales in the Turkish automotive market reached 39,051 units in the first 9 months of this year, showing a growth of 862.8% compared to the same period last year.

According to the data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey increased by 64.8% to reach 857,575 units in the January-September period of 2023 compared to the same period last year.

During this period, car sales increased by 67% to 666,890 units, while light commercial vehicle sales rose by 57.2% to 190,685 units.

Gasoline cars maintain their lead

In the Turkish automotive market, with 448,152 units sold in the first 9 months of this year, followed by diesel cars with 102,184 units.

Hybrid car sales reached 70,072, and autogas (LPG) car sales amounted to 7,431 units. Electric car sales remained significantly higher than autogas car sales, totaling 39,051 units.

Last year, 4,056 electric cars were sold in the January-September period, indicating an 862.8% increase in electric car sales.

Comparing the first 9 months of this year to the same period in 2022, gasoline car sales increased by 60.6%, diesel car sales by 49.1%, and autogas car sales by 9.8%.

During this period, hybrid car sales increased by 71.4%, and electric car sales saw an impressive 862.8% increase.

The share of gasoline cars in total sales decreased from 69.9% in January-September 2022 to 67.2% in the same period this year. Diesel cars' share decreased from 17.2% to 15.3%, and autogas cars' share decreased from 1.7% to 1.1%.

The share of electric cars in total sales in Türkiye increased from 1% to 5.9%, while hybrid cars' share increased from 10.2% to 10.5%.

When considering both electric and hybrid vehicles, electrified vehicles accounted for 16.4% of the total market.

Furthermore, several brands continue to introduce their ambitious models into the Turkish market as previously announced.
