Britain needs 10 million tonnes of steel by 2030 for energy security

In the upcoming years, the UK will need more than 10 million tons of steel for new energy projects. This is stated in a new study by Tata Steel, the country's largest steelmaker.

According to Tata Steel, more than 5 million tons of steel will be needed to build thousands of offshore wind turbines by 2030, and about 3.5 million tons will be needed for planned solar and nuclear power plants in the upcoming years. About 1.5 million tonnes can be used to generate and distribute hydrogen, build infrastructure for large-scale carbon capture (CCS) projects, and unlock new oil and gas resources in the North Sea.

According to Henrik Adam, head of Tata Steel UK, recent events show how important it is to have a reliable energy source. To achieve this, the UK will need an energy revolution that will require millions of tons of steel for new energy projects.

But according to Henrik Adam, steelmakers in the UK need to invest in decarbonizing the industry if they want to become steel suppliers.
