"In the future, there may not be enough material to produce green steel in the required quantities"

According to the report, some experts said that steel scrap is the primary material for decarbonizing the steel industry and that there may not be enough material available in the future to produce green steel in the quantities required.

British steel company Stemcor said the UK produces about 12 million tons of steel scrap and exports 8 million tons. If Tata Steel converts its blast furnace steel production to scrap electric arc furnace steel production, less scrap will be exported.

GMH Gruppe, the largest metal processing company, emphasizes the importance of ensuring a stable supply of steel scrap in Europe. They use almost 100% steel scrap in electric furnaces to produce environmentally friendly green steel. The company aims to produce carbon-neutral steel by 2039.
