EU to impose new sanctions on Iran

While no information is given about the content of the sanctions that will be discussed at the meeting to be held in Brussels on 14 November, it is stated that 30 individuals and organizations can be included in the sanctions list.

EU to impose new sanctions on Iran

The European Union (EU) is preparing to impose new sanctions due to the government's intervention in the protests that started after the death of Mahsa Emini in Iran.

The foreign ministers of EU countries will discuss the issue at their meeting in Brussels on 14 November. It is expected that the additional sanction decision, which has been prepared, will take its final form at the meeting and be approved by the ministers.

EU officials have not yet shared information on what or who the sanctions will involve. However, it is stated that about 30 individuals and organizations can be included in the sanctions list.

The EU announced that it had imposed sanctions on 11 Iranian people and 4 organizations on 17 October regarding the intervention in the protests that spread throughout the country and lasted for about a month after the death of Mahsa Emini. Iran, in turn, decided to impose sanctions on 12 European individuals and 8 organizations, including the members of the European Parliament, on October 26.

It is stated that the EU may impose sanctions on Iran due to ballistic weapons sales to Russia, apart from the Emini protests.

Arguing that Iran is one of the two countries that militarily assisted Russia with North Korea, the EU official said, "If the sale is proven to be true, we will impose sanctions."
